The Museum was founded in 1897 by Amy, Eleanor, and Sarah Hewitt — granddaughters of industrialist Peter Cooper — as part of The Cooper Union For The Advancement Of Science & Art. It is housed in the landmark Andrew Carnegie Mansion on Fifth Avenue in New York City.

The campus also includes two historic townhouses renovated with state-of-the-art conservation technology and a unique terrace and garden.

The Jewish Museum, one of the world's largest and most important institutions devoted to exploring the remarkable scope and diversity of Jewish culture, was founded in 1904 in the library of The Jewish Theological Seminary of America, where it was housed for more than four decades.

In 1944, Frieda Schiff Warburg, widow of the prominent businessman and philanthropist, Felix Warburg, who had been a Seminary trustee, donated the family mansion at 1109 Fifth Avenue at 92nd Street to the Seminary for use as the Museum.

A sculpture court was installed alongside the Mansion in 1959, and the Albert A. List Building was added in 1963 to provide additional exhibition and program space. In 1989, a major expansion and renovation project was undertaken. Upon completion in June 1993, the expansion doubled the Museum's gallery space, created new space for educational programs, provided significant improvements in public amenities, and added a two-floor permanent exhibition.

Founded in 1870, the Metropolitan Museum Of Art is one of the world's largest and finest art museums. Its collections include more than two million works of art spanning 5,000 years of world culture, from prehistory to the present and from every part of the globe.

The museum's two-million-square-foot building has vast holdings that represent a series of collections, each of which ranks in its category among the finest in the world. The American Wing, for example, houses the world's most comprehensive collection of American paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts, presently including 24 period rooms that offer an unparalleled view of American history and domestic life. The museum's approximately 2,500 European paintings form one of the greatest such collections in the world — Rembrandts and Vermeers alone are among the choicest, not to mention the collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist canvases. Virtually all of the 36,000 objects constituting the greatest collection of Egyptian art outside Cairo are on display, while the Islamic art collection is one of the world's finest. Other major collections belonging to the museum include arms and armor, Asian art, costumes, European sculpture and decorative arts, medieval and Renaissance art, musical instruments, drawings, prints, antiquities from around the ancient world, photography, and modern art.

The Neue Galerie New York is a museum of early twentieth-century German and Austrian art and design.

The name of the museum indicates the twin allegiances of the institution: its embrace of both the city in which it is located and the culture upon which its exhibitions and collections are based. Historically, the name Neue Galerie New York derives in part from the Neue Galerie in Vienna, founded in 1923, which was a vitally important showcase for the work of Klimt, Schiele, and other artists associated with the Secession movement. The word "neue," which means "new," referred in a general sense to the work these artists were creating, and to the novel approach to art and life that their work represented. It is in this same spirit of innovation that the term "Neue Galerie" is used for Neue Galerie New York.

Housed in an elegant Beaux-Arts structure built in 1914, the Neue Galerie is divided into two sections: the second floor of the museum houses works of fine art and decorative art from the museum's permanent collection of early twentieth-century Austria; the third floor exhibits various German works from the same era, as well as special temporary exhibitions.

The museum also contains a bookstore, design shop, and two Viennese cafés.
